About the Book:
Imagine what you would do if you found a key to a time machine. That's exactly what Alex Williamson, a twelve-year-old girl on her way home from swim practice, did. Although she didn't know what the strange, metallic, light-weight box was at first, she carried it home to her father, Rick, a 36-year-old computer programmer. Together, with the help of some experts in geology, anthropology, ancient cultures and languages, they decipher the strange writings inscribed on it. They soon discover the mystery to the box and find a map and key to a time machine inside.
The time machine's creator had hidden the box, hoping to protect time from his former assistant, Ferdinand Bergamiser (AKA Bignose). The family is confronted with the fact that Bignose had altered the time machine in such a way that they could not enter a certain time. Within this time, he had set in motion a process of destroying Earth in the future. He hid four memory crystals that unlock this era in four separate parts of history and left riddles as to where each resides.
The Williamsons have to solve these riddles, then travel back to ancient Rome, seventeenth century Salem, Massachusetts, 1963 Dallas, Texas, and finally to witness Jesus' birth in order to recover the crystals. They learn the truth behind several long-held beliefs or mysteries of history along the way in a wild adventure through time. They then face off with the evil man from the future for the fate of the world.
