Generation One
About the Book
For Earth's initial foray outside the solar system, the New World Government would normally select a military officer to pilot the world's first interstellar spaceship, but since private industry funded the entire project, the government didn't have a say in the matter. The man chosen was the designer of the craft, the wacky Jerry Wayne.
Jerry Wayne as captain wasn't odd because he wasn’t qualified – he had the highest recorded intelligence score on the standard IQ test - the only perfect score ever. What made the choice odd was that he was a total goof-off; he never seemed to take anything seriously. But the man who made this decision had his own ulterior motive: to get Jerry off the planet and as far away from him as possible. Beyond the boundaries of the solar system seemed like the perfect destination.
However, Jerry turned out to be the ideal leader for this mission, for as time goes by aboard Gen-One, the crew quickly realized their biggest adversary over this extraordinarily long trip is boredom; and Jerry never ceases to entertain. And when they are finally faced with an alien species who are keeping several dozen groups of other life-forms as slaves, he proves to be invaluable.
In this first book of the series, Gen-One battles one of the galaxy's biggest bullies, the Ramma, and gains many new and strange friends in the process. They learn a lot about their solar system's neighborhood and begin to make their mark upon it. But they also bring unwanted attention to the ship which stalks them for the rest of its voyage.
