Edge was raised by an emotionless mother in the small town of Cross Lanes, West Virginia with his eleven year old sister, Ada, and their neighbor, Violet. His mother's pitiful upbringing contributes to their basic lack of social skills and understanding of normalcy. But they soon learn they're far from normal anyway and enter a world of magic and monsters - the lost city of Atlantis. They also find out their mother is actually a zombie, animated to keep them alive.
Edge makes many friends in this new world, forges alliances with ancient races, and fights creatures believed to be mythical; all in preparation for his inevitable showdown with the underlord, Dathyx. he learns the history of Atlantis, of Dathyx, and the evil organization that champions him: The Dominion. In this first book of the series, Edge must complete many quests, solve mysteries, and eventually rescue his friends from the Dominion's lair. He receives help from some unexpected places, realizes his first romance, and bungles his way through his first, awkward year in the dangerous, but magical world.
